Plymouth Argyle 0 vs MSS FC 6
King Georges Park, Wandsworth.
The day didn't get off to the best of starts when the referees scooter broke down on the M4 and so each team decided to share the refereeing. It was a mild but overcast day but the pitch was terrible and not conducive to flowing attacking football. The management team of Clark and Nugent added 3 debutants to the Boro squad for the second friendly of the season against Plymouth Argyle, Ex Boro keeper Marlon Beresford, Ashley Leek and Chris White. Boro were also thankful to Britvic who provided 3 crates of Gatorade for the game and Larner Recycling for supplying the team Polo shirts.
MSS Member Profile - Andy ClarkIn the first MSS fan profile of 2010, we speak to Andy Clark (aka FMTTM's LisbonLegend) about his time down South and memories of supporting the Boro: Whereabouts on Teesside are you from? I'm from the Low Grange area of Billingham, it's the tropical oasis of Teesside.
What are your childhood memories of supporting the Boro? My earliest childhood memories were of standing in the Holgate end with my brother on my tenth birthday watching Joe Jordan get sent off for Bristol City in the old third division in a 1-0 victory. Little did I know that I was about to witness one of the greatest and most exciting periods in boro history. I remember falling over the seats in the South stand whilst trying to get down on to the ayresome park pitch for the third division promotion celebrations after a 0-0 draw with wigan. Then my dad bought Bruce Riochs old club car, a Sierra Sapphire 2.0 GLSi and the scene was set. I had fallen in love with the everything Boro, the craic on the Holgate, E-I-Oing, the stats in the programme, the sounds and smell of the terraces and also the fact that we were winning and scoring goals. Those days seem so long ago when you look at the current state of affairs...All seater stadiums, falling crowds, moaning people on internet message boards and the influx of foreign owners that have distorted the game and ruined the excitement and the level(ish) playing field. MSS Weekly NewsletterWelcome to the weekly MSS newsletter Middlesbrough takeaways face cash crisis Welcome to the new MSS - viva la Southern Revolution!Join MSS for FREE by clicking "Create an Account" in the Login box --> Back in 1975, a handful of Southern-based Boro fans stood on the steps of Highbury and formed Middlesbrough Supporters South - a supporters club for loyal fans desperate for information on their hometown club. In the years that followed, through the rollercoaster days of Rioch, Robson and McLaren, the club had grown to over 1000 members - travelling to games, sharing the latest news and enjoying the annual, infamous Christmas Party. Sadly, in recent years, the success of the supporters club has mirrored that of the football team. As of last year, numbers had dwindled to 150 - many of whom were renewing out of habit rather than necessity. As the internet was saturated with Boro news and the downturn of the team meant that individuals could easily purchase tickets without being affiliated to a supporters club, the role of MSS was unclear. 2010 is a milestone year in the history of MSS and brings about a number of landmark changes. For the first time in the club’s history, membership will be free and open to all. New members have been elected to the committee to bring fresh energy and ideas to the club, with the aim of restoring, and ultimately exceeding, the former glories of MSS. |
